Castle Drogo Devon Conservation Team Photographed by Matt Austin

A quick trip to Castle Drogo in Devon this morning to photograph the Conservation team moving and cleaning the Castles contents into safe storage ready for vital maintainance work to be carried out.
It’s a difficult time for the Castle, Despite a recent grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, they still need to raise nearly half a million pounds to save Castle Drogo from being destroyed by water damage. The roof needs to be repaired, the walls repointed and the windows replaced. Unless this work is done soon, the castle will have to be abandoned.
Castle Drogo is a country house near Drewsteignton, Devon. it’s the last Castle to be built in England, constructed in the 1910s and 1920s for Julius Drewe to designs by architect Edwin Lutyens, and is a Grade I listed building.
A fantastic place with excellent views across Dartmoor this moring you could just see the snow dusted hills of the moor, I only had an hour to photograph there but could have spent all day.
I found a sort of early Subbuteo game wich fascinated me and spent far to long photographing it.
Please take a look at some of the pictures below.
